Hi, and welcome!

Everyone has to start somewhere, and you should know up front that I'm just starting out.  My goal is to start as close to the top as possible in all of the above:  beauty and glamour, sound structure, general and genetic health, and fearless, outgoing temperament.

What does it mean that I'm new to the world of breeding?

It means I have only young bitches and growing puppies.  I've had only two litters so far, so I'm definitely a beginner..

It means that that I have plenty of 'book learning,' but not much practical experience.  Genetics has been a hobby of mine for years; I am not a newcomer to that field, but the nuts 'n' bolts of breeding a bitch and rearing a litter of puppies will be new to me, when I get there.  Yes, I'm nervous about it.

And it means I have an "outsider's" perspective on the world of breeding and showing dogs, for whatever that's worth.  If you think that might be a valuable perspective for you because you're new yourself, great!

Excellent Cavalier Sites:

http://www.premiercavalierinfosite.com/

-- the best place to go for a thorough look at Cavalier health issues.  Lots of links.

http://cavaliersonline.com/search.html

-- a wonderful resource for the breeder, with thousands of pedigrees on line.

http://www.ckcsc.org/ -- the "old club."

http://www.ackcsc.org/usa.html -- the "new club.

http://ckcscofstl.org/ -- the St. Louis Cavalier club.

Outstanding sites for other breeds:

www.workingpitbull.com --

Diane Jessup has a great site -- I particularly like her discussion of the difference between dogs bred to show vs. dogs bred to perform, but the whole site is outstanding.  And please, if you buy into the whole Evil Pit Bull idea, will you take a look at this site and reconsider?

http://www.labbies.com/

Wing'n'Wave Labradors is a good, thoughtful site with lots of articles about Labrador Retrievers and general information about canine health.

www.katewerk.com/

minuteman.html

Kate Werk, a breeder of Miniature Schnauzers, has put together an excellent site with a lot of good articles and links.  Thank you, Kate, for defending the pursuit of beauty as well as health

Other sites that deserve a second look:

http://www.offa.org/sainfo.html

Not a breed site, but an important site about some of the important problems that the OFA is attempting to help solve.

http://www.dogpatch.org/dogs/

breed.cfm

A list of good breed sites, annotated.  Lots of places to go if you're browsing for a breed or just interested.  If you like learning about rare breeds, why not check out the Klee Kai?  Focused on spaniels?  There's a good Boykin Spaniel site linked here.  And yes, there are a couple Cavalier sites linked, also.

One of the very best sites about finding a responsible breeder and why you should bother.  Well written, well put-together, and full of good links if you want to further investigate any topic discussed.

Here's another excellent site that covers the same topics, plus a lot more if you go back to the homepage:
